Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement
This Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking Statement sets out the steps taken by Removals Elephant and Castle to prevent modern slavery, forced labour and human trafficking within our operations and supply chains. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships, and to implementing effective systems and controls to ensure that modern slavery does not occur in any part of our business.
Our Business and Supply Chain
Removals Elephant and Castle operates in the removals, storage and associated logistics sector. Our activities involve direct employees, agency workers and third-party contractors who support transport, packing, warehousing, cleaning, maintenance and the provision of materials, equipment and uniforms. We recognise that elements of the logistics and wider facilities sector can be vulnerable to exploitation, particularly where workforces include migrant workers, temporary labour or subcontracted services.
We are committed to working with suppliers and partners who share our values and who can demonstrate robust protections against modern slavery and human trafficking in their own operations and supply chains.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery
We operate a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, including forced labour, debt bondage, servitude, human trafficking and child labour. This policy applies to all employees, workers, contractors, agency staff and any other individuals or organisations working on our behalf. Any breach or suspected breach of this policy will be treated seriously and may result in termination of contracts, suspension of services and, where appropriate, referral to the relevant authorities.
All managers are responsible for promoting this zero-tolerance approach and ensuring that it is communicated effectively to their teams and to our suppliers.
Supplier Due Diligence and Audits
We understand that the risk of modern slavery can be heightened within complex supply chains. To address this, we are strengthening our supplier due diligence procedures and ongoing monitoring. As part of our approach, we aim to assess existing and new suppliers on their labour practices, recruitment methods, use of subcontractors and compliance with applicable employment and human rights legislation.
Where appropriate, we may conduct supplier audits, either directly or through reputable third parties. These audits may include site visits, worker interviews and the review of employment records, policies and procedures. If any indicators of exploitation or non-compliance are identified, we will work with the supplier to implement corrective actions within clear timeframes. If the supplier is unwilling or unable to meet our standards, we reserve the right to end the business relationship.
Reporting Concerns and Whistleblowing Channels
We encourage all employees, workers, contractors and other stakeholders to report any concerns related to modern slavery or unethical labour practices. Concerns may include suspicions about a colleague, a worker employed by a supplier, or any activity within our operations that appears inconsistent with this statement.
Individuals are encouraged to raise concerns with their line manager, a member of the management team, or through our internal reporting and whistleblowing channels. Reports can be made confidentially, and we will take all allegations seriously, investigate them promptly and, where appropriate, take corrective and protective measures. We are committed to ensuring that anyone who raises a concern in good faith will not suffer any form of retaliation or detriment.
Training, Awareness and Responsibilities
We are working to raise awareness of modern slavery risks among our staff, particularly those involved in recruitment, procurement, contract management and site supervision. Training and guidance will help employees identify potential signs of exploitation, understand reporting routes and apply our policies consistently.
Responsibility for overseeing our modern slavery arrangements rests with senior management, who ensure that our policies, due diligence processes and responses to incidents remain effective and proportionate to the risks we face.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that preventing modern slavery is an ongoing process that requires vigilance, transparency and continuous improvement. We will review this statement and our related policies and procedures at least once a year, or sooner if required by changes in legislation, business operations or identified risks.
The annual review will consider the effectiveness of our supplier audits, the number and nature of any concerns raised, the outcomes of investigations, and feedback from employees and stakeholders. Where necessary, we will update our approach, strengthen controls and allocate additional resources to reduce the risk of modern slavery across our operations and supply chains.
This statement has been approved by the leadership of Removals Elephant and Castle and represents our ongoing commitment to uphold human rights and dignity for all those who work with and for our business.
